Sometimes I am tempted to draw an almost realistic, cartoonal and stylized drawing at the same time. This one is based on a short story, Peranggi Poison, for Koran Tempo daily where I work for. As all illustrations, it doesn't want to pretend to explain the story. It's perhaps just a visual temptation to go on reading the story fully. Beautiful women with vaginal diseases in the story were described as some kind of deadly poisons to take down some Sultan. Well, even without diseases, I can be easily poisoned by beauty:)

Integrating disqus into blogger

Today I integrated my blogspot comment system with disqus. What the hehehe is it? To let them explain themselves in a single line: Disqus makes your comments more interactive for readers and easier to manage for you — all while connecting your community with other blogs.

Here are the steps I have done to make it work:
1. Go to disqus.com
2. Register as usual, create you account there
3. Get started
4. Add your blog to Disqus by filling your blog url, blogname and a subdomain on disqus.
5. You'll be led to Integrate comment system with blog and select your platform whether it is a wordpress, blogger, typepad, movable type, tumblr or simply use the Javascript code snippet for a custom integration when you have your own self hosted blog.
6. In my case now, I chose blogger. You have to log into your blogger account:

From your Blogger account, go to Template > Edit HTML and select "Download Full Template".
Then upload that file into disqus, it's in .xml format when downloaded, using the provided submission form right below the instruction for your new Disqus-integrated template.

7. Now that your blogger template is uploaded and integrated into your disqus, you have your new template and are given the following:

On the same Blogger page, make sure Expand Widget Templates is checked, and paste your newly integrated template in the Edit Template area. Save the template.
Go to Settings > Comments and change the Comments Default for Posts to New Posts Do Not Have Comments if you chose to only allow the future comments are given the disqus system before. When all is fine, there is "Settings Were Saved Successfully" message after hitting the Save Settings button.

Ok, let's see how good the disqus system is integrated with blogger now. If you have any other platform you'd like to integrate, such as a wordpress account, typepad, etc., just follow the instructions after chosing the correct platform to integrate. If you have a self hosted and custom CMS, a provided Javascript code snippet will be just as easy when you know how. If you have a self-hosted drupal CMS, the you might try the module by Rob Loach here.

Alternative WYISWYG editor for Wordpress 2.2 series

Today I upgraded my site to Wordpress 2.2.1 and everything worked great, except for tinymce editor. This visual rich text editor or commonly called WYSIWYG is totally missing. It is perhaps better said to be What You Don't See Is What You Get. Well, this is surely a modification of the TinyMCE JavaScript WYSIWG text editor. And the WP project team modified the standard distribution in ways that tend to break the linkage with independent TinyMCE developments, limit available functionality, and change the editor’s behavior, and finally mess up with this release unless I made some stupid mistakes in the upgrade process, of course.

I tried to find some answers to the problem. As this only happens in real production environtment. It was fine in development stage.

The first is this wordpress forum. A lot of suggestions and I was just too confused.

Still wondering around and look for other easy solutions, I go to Advanced Tinymce Editor to be prompted with the problem of the editor width itself. Everything is great here. It reminds me of the famous joomla WYSIWYG editor. Whatever you want to handle with editing, it is simply there. Yet, it's just too wide for me.

I tried another tinymce by munbomb.com, it is just exactly what I need. It has some added features:

Color picker
Background color
Emoticons
Dictionary
Pagination shortcut icon

The HTML or Code window is a pop up, but it doesn't disturb your editing process. All is still in the main window.

Moving from Ultimate Tag Warrior to Simple Tagging

For those who are still in trouble with Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW), since it breaks its compatibility with Wordpress 2.2, or otherwise if this Getz release is not backward compatible, you may try this great alternative plugin for tagging, i.e. Simple Tagging. It was formerly developed by Michael Woehrer based on Jerome Lavigne’s Keywords Plugin 2.0 Beta 3, only heavily extended.

Just go the latest Simple Tagging plugin developer Amaury Balmer (Administrator WordPress France). Or if you would like to have the Simple Tagging widget, you can go here or directly go to the author homepage. If you prefer the widget, you still have to download and activate the “Simple Tagging” plugin and the “Sidebar Widgets” plugin as well to make this widget work. Save for the sidebar widget, it is supported already since Wordpress 2.2.

Other good features available are Tags of the Current Post, Related Posts, Related Tags apart from the famous Tag Cloud. More Template Tags are also provided for you to explore.

The good news is Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) and Jerome’s Keywords can be imported into this not so simple tagging plugin. Just in case, as always, backup your database first!

There should be the first time for everything, for everyone to do anything. So is this post. I am an Indonesian, my mother tongue is Sundanese and my subconsciousness is already stuffed with English. I dream in English quite often, I swear in English more often, and I express a lot of personal mutterings, whenever I speak to myself, in English. I love this English thing as much as I love my own beloved mother tongue and second language. So just beware of my mixed and tumbled down languages around here ^=^. I will speak in any of these three languages whenever I feel I can express precisely whatever I have in mind without bothering much about who I am speaking to. All apologies.
